When creating models in SketchUp many new CS makers are unaware of the actual quality we are able to use in RCT3. Some people say we should keep are polygon count below 500 some say 1000, I believe that this depends on how often the CS object will be used e.g. A park entrance may have a higher polygon count than a seat or bin as you may only have one or two park entrances whereas you may have hundreds of bins or seats. So think about what you are making before you start building it in SketchUp.
I have created a very short and basic tutorial(below) on how to lower the polygon count when using circles and arcs.
First: When you draw a circle they generally have 24 segments(sides) this will make a very high polygon count very quickly(and remember polygon count does not depend on visible faces & edges. A triangle obviously consists of one triangle, Squares and rectangles consist of 2 triangles, a hexagon consists of 6 triangles[you can not rely on SketchUp for an accurate polygon count])
Below is a normal Circle containing 24 Segments (too many polys)
Now if you select the edge of the circle, then right click the edge a small menu will appear. Select "Entity Info"(this should be at the top of the menu). See Below...
Now a small window will appear, you will notice that where the heading "Segments" is that it will say 24. See Below...
So if you now adjust this number to 15 or below(depending on the detail you want the object to show and also how often the object will be placed). You will now need to click off this window so that the changes will take place. See Below...
I have now just quickly used the push/pull tool to create a very basic planter box. This planter box has a polygon count of '92', I have also created another planter box with the same dimensions except this one has not had the edges reduced to 15 or below. This Planter has 188 Polygon count. So now you can see that by doing this simple trick you can even reduce the simplest of models by almost 100 polygon.
I hope this Tutorial has helped you in one way or another,
if you have further questions feel free to post that question here or at my website(website link is in my signature), you will also find many more tutorials on my website. Please refrain from PM me as My inbox is becoming very full from almost pointless questions.
