Basics of Importer 17
In this tutorial I am going to teach you the basic of 'Importer V17', I have included heaps of pictures so that this tutorial is very easy to follow.
Well to get started...
1st: Open the importer. See below...
2nd:The importer should appear the same as this...
3rd:Set a prefix i.e. your name or alias. See below...
4th:Select a theme type(usually set on generic). See below...
5th:Set the them name. See below...
6th:Now that we have set up the general information for our scenery we can create our scenery ovl. See below...
7th:A new window should just have popped up this is where we create our scenery ovl. See below...
8th:We start be adding texture to do this select add in the texture frame. See below...
9th:Another window should now appear, from here you can select your texture/s. See below...
10th:Now that you have added your textures the scenery ovl window should now look like this...
11th:Now that we have our textures we need to add our model, click the add button in the model frame. See below...
12th:Another window should now appear. See below...
13th:Now we need to select our model, to do this select the browse button. See below...
14th:Now find and select your model then click open. See below...
15th:Now in the groups frame on the right you will notice that something has appeared here, they should be names of grouped meshes. If it simply says ungrouped than you have not grouped your textures properly in SketchUp(if this is the case you may need to go and fix it, this is not a problem if you are only adding one texture). See below...
16th: You now need to select the correct texture for the correct group, I named the groups and textures the same thing i.e. Color of texture. See below...
17th:Now that you have selected the correct textures you can now click ok. You have now set up your model. See below...
18th:Your Scenery ovl window should now look like this...
19th:Now you simply press the 'A' button in the LOD(level of detail) frame. This automatically set all the details need for your scenery object to function properly. See below...
20th:Your Scenery ovl window should now look like this...
21st:You can now click create scenery ovl. See below...
22nd:Now you need to set the save location. See below...
23rd:Now you can cross out of this window. See below...
24th:A new window will now appear asking if you want to quit click yes.
25th: Now we need to create a icon sheet. An icon sheet consits of a 512X512 pixel picture(I use paint, it is effective and simple) and is filled up with small 64X64 pixel icons(you will need at least two paint documents open to do this).
Adjust the attributes(size of picture). See below...
26th:Adjust the attributes in one paint document to 512X512 pixels(this is where you will past all of you scenery icons). See below...
27th:Adjust the attributes of the other paint document to 64X64 pixels(you will use this paint document to create your icons before pasting them over to the other document). See below...
28th:Now in the paint document with attributes set to 64X64 pixels, create the icon you want added. See below...
29th:Now you need to copy this icon. See below...
30th: Then paste it into the paint document with 512X512 pixel attributes. See below...
31st:Your paint document should now look like this...
32nd:If you want another icon this should be added onto the right, you start at the top row and go left to right then you go to the second row and go left to right and so on. See below...
Now you need to save your paint document in an easy to find location.
33rd:Now go back to the importer and select icon textures. See below...
34th:A new window will appear, now click add. See below...
35th:Another window will appear, now click load. See below...
36th:Now you need to locate your icon sheet. See below...
37th:Once loaded it should look like this...
Now you can click ok.
38th:Your texture manager window should now look like this...
39th:Now we need to set the icon references. See below...
40th:When the new window pop up click the auto button. See below...
Now click OK.
41st:Now you just need to select the correct icon sheet, for this tutorials that is easy as we only created one.
42nd:The icon manager window should now look like this...
43rd:Now it is time to set the text strings(these are names given to objects in the games). See below...
44th:Select add in the new window. See below...
45th:Type the name of an object. See below...
46th: Now hit copy as you want these names to be the same. See below...
Now you can click Ok.
47th:Your text manager window should now look like this...
Now you can click close.
48th:We can now finally set up the scenery settings. Click the scenery button to do this. See below…
49th:Once the new window appears select add. See below…
50th:A new window should appear and look like this…
51st:Since we have already created our scenery ovl earlier we can simply load it. Click select ovl. See below…
Now simply locate and open you Scenery ovl.
52nd: Now that you have loaded your ovl we need to locate it within the theme folder. Just give it a simple name i.e. your name and packs name.
53rd: Now we need to set up the group icon and name. First select the correct icon reference that you set earlier. See below…
54th:Now simply select the group name string that you created earlier. See below…
55th: Now we need to set up the scenery icon and name. First select the correct icon reference that you set earlier. See below…
56th:Now simply select the scenery name string that you created earlier. See below…
57th:Now you need to set the unknowns like this…
58th:Once your scenery setting look like the picture above than you can press ok. See below…
59th:Your scenery manager window should now look like this…
You can now close this window.
60th:Now be sure to save your themed file incase you ever need to come back to it(trust me you will need to come back to fix things).
61st: now that you have saved a backup copy simply press install. See below...
Congratulations you have just imported your first CS set into RCT3.
